Our Story
Perched on the side of a hill overlooking the Grand River and downtown Galt, the Grand House has been an icon for the City of Cambridge as well as the Waterloo Architecture community.

Bringing Vision to Reality.

Construction

In order to provide a safe working environment, and to speed up the construction process, the floor decks and the roof were built in a framing pen on a flat lot across the street from the site. The floor decks were then be craned over onto the steel along with the pre-fab interior walls and straw bale box-columns.

The columns were erected as per balloon framing methods, the intermediate floors framed in, and the roofs craned over into place a few weeks later

Grand House

Striking, stylish, highly visible and very eco-friendly! 4600 sq. ft. 3 storey building, with 2 fire-separated, independently serviced units. Purpose-built and operated for 4 years as a Co-operative Student House by and for students of architecture.

Grand House overlooks the river and busy downtown core, and is zoned multi-residential / commercial. It is also designated as part of the downtown core area,
making it eligible for municipal core development incentives. The unbuilt area of site is zoned residential, and addresses a quiet mixed-use residential neighbourhood.

Great student residential investment property and lots of scope for use as commercial space. A very unique property. Constructed with radiant floors, resource-saving features, and renewable, recycled and low off-gassing (low VOC) materials for healthy indoor air quality and decreased carbon footprint.

Location

Location - The property is strategically located along the Grand River waterway in the city core of Galt, just North of City Hall and the University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture.
